After David Lee’s 24 points and 17 rebounds, Tyra Banks has been blowing up his phone all night.
Best Golden State Warrior - 2012 - David Lee
SF Weekly awards David Lee “Best Warrior,” which is the NBA equivalent of receiving a participant medal.
“In a sense, David Lee wins this accolade the way Carl Lewis won the gold in the 100-meter dash at the 1988 Olympics: Monta Ellis was the Warriors’ best player this year, but as he is no longer eligible, the prize goes to the next guy.”
This did ruin the Warriors’ plan to tank so hard that the “Best Warrior” award defaulted to a member of the Dakota Wizards. As such, the Utah Jazz will receive the SF Weekly’s accolade next year. Congratulations in advance, Al Jefferson!
In his Sacramento Kings debut, Terrence Williams delivered an impressive block on David Lee with seconds remaining, then lost control of the ball trying to drive to the basket. The five-second demonstration encapsulated his career: impressive athleticism and court awareness alongside depressing decision-making and ball-handling. Kings fans, enjoy the highs and lows of the Williams experience, at least for the next seventeen days.
Because this was a Kings-Warriors game, that wasn’t the end of the on-court bloopers. David Lee got a five-second violation after failing to inbound the ball, then Isaiah Thomas gave it right back by dribbling the ball off his own leg. Technically, the Warriors finished with more points than the Kings, but in a game like this, there are no winners.
“Guys, look out, there’s Wilson Chandler! Don’t let him bite you! His rancid teeth sent me to the hospital! God, he’s like a Gila monster or something.”
