The Sporting News used to give out the Fireman of the Year award to baseball’s finest relief pitcher. Chad Qualls might be campaigning for the Farenheit 451 version of the award, where they honor the reliever who pours the most gasoline on rallies. Qualls came in hoping to get a double play, and instead gave up a three-run homer. Oh, and his manager got ejected, too.
Final line for Qualls: 0.1 IP, 4H, 2R, 2ER, 1 HR, two inherited runners scored.
