Noted homophobe (OR tragic Twitter hacking victim) Derek Holland relieved Yu Darvish in the seventh inning of the Taco Bell One-Game Wild-Card This-Time-It-Counts Fiesta. Holland came in with two outs and a runner on second. After a wild pitch, Holland gave up a run-scoring single to Nate McLouth. He later threw away a pickoff attempt before finally getting out of the inning.
I’m not going to say it was definitely bad karma that led to Holland’s disastrous relief appearance. But it’s ironic that a player who tosses around slurs about gay people was once again undone by his inability to throw the ball straight.
