Adrian Cardenas, Ruiner Of Dreams
Today, in separate trades, the Cubs traded Geovany Soto and Ryan Dempster to the Rangers for prospects. Lost at the bottom of the transactions page was this roster move:
“Recalled INF Adrian Cardenas from Iowa (PCL).”
A.J. Burnett won’t forget this “minor” move, as he took a no-hitter two outs into the 8th inning tonight. Then, pinch-hitting for the pitcher, Adrian Cardenas came up and singled to right - only the eighth hit of his entire career. Burnett might well have been happy that his old Marlins teammate Dempster got to join a contender. But he really must wish the Cubs had decided to recall an extra pitcher to replace him instead.
